Electric Heaters for Energy and Utilities

Flange heaters, circulation heaters, heat tracing cables and immersion heaters for pipelines, storage tanks, fuel systems and process equipment in power generation and utility operations.

Component Supply for Energy and Utility Applications

UniTherm supplies industrial electric heating components for energy and utility applications. If your application is in a classified hazardous area, include the zone classification and gas group in your enquiry so our team can confirm suitability.

Pipeline Heating and Freeze Protection

Pipelines carrying water, fuel, chemicals and process fluids in power plants and utility facilities need temperature maintenance, especially in cold weather or where the fluid must remain above a minimum viscosity. Heat tracing cables run along the pipe length under insulation, maintaining the pipe contents at the target temperature.

For larger pipes and higher heat-loss conditions, multiple runs of trace cable or higher-output cable may be needed. The specification depends on the pipe diameter, the insulation thickness, the ambient temperature and the maintain temperature. Share these details for a recommendation.

Tank and Vessel Heating

Fuel storage tanks, water treatment tanks, chemical storage vessels and process tanks in energy facilities often require electric heating to maintain temperature. Flange heaters bolt onto tank flanges and immerse heating elements directly into the tank contents. These are common for fuel oil preheating, water heating and chemical tank maintenance.

Circulation heaters heat fluids in a flowing loop, providing inline heating for process systems. They are used for fuel oil heating, lube oil warming and process fluid conditioning.

The sheath material and watt density must suit the fluid. Fuel oils require lower watt densities to prevent coking on the heater surface. Corrosive chemicals require compatible alloys.

Fuel Preheating

Heavy fuel oil (HFO) and other viscous fuels used in power generation and industrial boilers require preheating to reduce viscosity for pumping and atomisation. Immersion heaters, flange heaters and circulation heaters serve fuel preheating systems. Tanker heaters maintain fuel temperature during transport and storage.

Process and Utility Support

Tubular heaters, air heaters and duct heating elements serve HVAC and utility systems in power plants and substations. Strip heaters and silicone rubber heaters provide localised heating for instrument panels, valve actuators and small enclosures in outdoor installations.

Thermocouples provide temperature measurement throughout the plant for process monitoring and heater control.

What to Include in Your Enquiry

When requesting a quotation, include as much of the following as possible:

  • Application (pipeline tracing, tank heating, fuel preheating, utility heating)
  • Hazardous area classification if applicable (zone, gas group)
  • Fluid being heated and its properties
  • Target temperature and ambient conditions
  • Pipe diameter, tank volume or system flow rate
  • Insulation details if applicable
  • Mounting arrangement (flange size, thread, over-the-side)
  • Voltage, wattage and supply configuration
  • Quantity required

Industry Questions

Can you supply heaters for use in hazardous areas in power plants?
If your application is in a classified hazardous area, include the zone classification and gas group in your enquiry. Our team will confirm whether suitable products are available or whether specialist sourcing is needed.
What type of heater is best for preheating heavy fuel oil?
Flange heaters and circulation heaters are commonly used for fuel oil preheating. The key factors are the fuel type, the starting temperature, the target temperature, the flow rate and the tank or pipe size. Watt density must be controlled to avoid coking (carbon deposits on the heater surface). Share your fuel properties and system details for a specific recommendation.
Do you supply heat tracing cables for long pipeline runs?
Yes. Heat tracing cables can be supplied in lengths to suit your pipeline. For long runs, the cable technology, the power output per metre, circuit length limits and the electrical supply arrangement all need to be considered. Provide the pipeline layout, dimensions, insulation and temperature requirements for a proper specification. ---
